Postpartum Mental Health (Blues & Depression)

Bringing a new baby into the world is often described as a joyful experience, but for many new mothers, the postpartum period can be emotionally overwhelming. Hormonal changes, physical recovery, lack of sleep, and new responsibilities can significantly impact mental health. Two common conditions experienced after childbirth are baby blues and postpartum depression (PPD). Understanding the difference between them is crucial for timely support and care.

What Are Baby Blues?

Baby blues are very common and affect nearly 70–80% of new mothers. These emotional changes usually begin within a few days after delivery and may last up to two weeks.
